R3PLAY: The Arcade, Retro & Video Gaming Expo

R3PLAY (pronounced “Replay”) is a brand new show celebrating four decades of gaming history. Presented in association with Retro Gamer and gamesTM magazines, this unique event will offer gamers of all ages the chance to experience gaming systems from the 1970s to present day. Hosted by TV personality and videogame fanatic Gail Porter, the R3PLAY Expo will take place at The Norbreck Castle Exhibition Centre in Blackpool on 6/7 November 2010 – the final weekend of this year’s famous Illuminations.

More than 300 systems will be available at R3PLAY comprising the finest possible selection of consoles, coin-ops and computers from all over the globe (with all machines set to free-play). Visitors will have the opportunity to take part in prize gaming competitions, listen to Q&A sessions with guest speakers, participate in workshops, view galleries of video game artwork, win fantastic raffle prizes, tender bids in a special auction and much, much more! Ticket holders will also be able to purchase games, systems, accessories and memorabilia via a number of specialist seller stands.

Hello World!

We were planning to make the “official” launch of the Computing & Gaming Events Union website coincide with the announcement of our upcoming event R3PLAY (which is due to be confirmed soon).

However, we’ve been given a surprise (and very welcome) mention in Issue #75  of Retro Gamer magazine (thanks Paul!) so we think that now is as good a time as any to open our doors!

Retro Reunited Official Video Now Available

Eurogamer Expo 2009

This was the 2nd year of the Eurogamer Expo and the first time the show had been brought up north. 3 members of the CGEU team made the trip and found the event to be lively and fun, but lacking somewhat in atmosphere.

New Event: Vintage Computer Festival

Acorn World 09 @ Retro Reunited

Last weekend I went to Retro Reunited at Cedar Court Hotel on Ainley Top – an exhibition and conference for folks who have little better to do with their time than play with computers and games from 25 years ago; I count myself among those, being a consummate Acorn-head. The show was run by volunteers and this was the first to feature Acorn World – a completely separate conference room with as much BBC Micro and Acorn kit as we could cram into it.
